Following the launch of the Center, RITSEC quickly formed a number of project teams and achieved early
success, particularly in the fields of training and "cultureware" projects. Since that time, RITSEC has achieved
many of its goals and continues to lead the region in developing the base for a successful IT industry, bridging
the digital divide and narrowing the gap between IT and software development in the West and the Arab World.
RITSEC's Strategic Objectives
- To contribute to the development of the Arab region through the utilization of new information and communication technologies;
- To initiate, encourage and promote human resource development and transfer of knowledge and experience within the region; and
- To support and assist the development of the information and communication infrastructure, resources, and value added services.

The Center's mission is to "support and help develop the information technology and software engineering
industry in the Arab region to become a world-class industry competing at international levels and serving as a
catalyst for accelerating socio-economic development in a knowledge-based world." RITSEC strives to achieve
that mission through utilizing new information and communication technologies to contribute to regional development;
to initiate, encourage and promote development of the region's human resources; to transfer knowledge and experience
within the region; and to support the development of the information and communication infrastructure.
RITSEC's programs focus on the utilization of information and communication technologies in the area of training and
education, culture preservation, environment preservation, establishing specialized regional information networks,
and professional skill development for executives, technical experts, youth, and children to prepare them for the
growing technological demands of the 21st century.
RITSEC has implemented nearly 50 projects within the framework of its charter, in partnership with Arab and international

"The ancient Egyptians may not have had any CASE tools, any object-oriented methods, or even any software engineers, but
they sure knew how to build systems that last…If some of that skill and perseverance can be passed on to RITSEC, it should
turn out to be a smashing success."

Ed Yourdon, in American Programmer magazine, writes that, "The ancient Egyptians may not have had any CASE tools,
any object-oriented methods, or even any software engineers, but they sure knew how to build systems that last. If some
of that skill and perseverance can be passed on to RITSEC, it should turn out to be a smashing success." RITSEC has shown
that it has obtained the skills and perseverance to be a success. It has learned from the experience of experts and industry
professionals from around the world and has not only disseminated that learning throughout the region but has also leveraged
it in nurturing IT projects and professionals in the Middle East and North Africa. A decade on, it has made substantial strides
toward achieving the vision of its founders: to create a sustainable and self-sufficient It industry in the Arab region.
