CultureWare
In an attempt to the assist socio-economic development in the Arab Region, RITSEC introduced the use of IT in Culture Preservation through the'Culture Preservation Program'.
RITSEC established Cultureware which aims at reviving and preserving the cultural heritage of the Arab Region. One of the used methods is multimedia technology to create software packages relaying culture information. Multimedia systems combine sound, text, graphics and animation giving the viewers a spiritual feel of the historical content. The culture preservation program concentrated on three main issues:
- Multimedia Manuscripts Retrieval Systems (MMRS)
- Environmental Map of Archeological Sites (EMAS)
- Integrated Museum Information System (IMIS).
The Cultureware Program has undertaken the implementation of several projects within this framework on both the national and regional levels. The program implements comprehensive registration and documentation projects for museums, libraries and archeological sites utilizing the features and capabilities of multimedia technology. As the name implies, Cultureware couples science, art and technology with culture to develop integrated information systems and cultural products for the purpose of preservation and dissemination. The main outputs of these projects are information systems, database, CD-ROM's and web-sites, in addition to human resource development.
